Find the best fit for your Clarks Kids shoes
Your child's feet are as unique as his or her personality, so the first thing to do is have the shape and size of their feet assessed by a Trained Fit Expert at a Clarks store. They'll be able to advise you on all the best possible fit for your child.

In store
Clarks Trained Fit Experts have extensive training and experience in the development of children's feet and fitting.

The Trained Fit Expert will use a specially designed measuring gauge to check the length, width, and depth of your child's feet - these are vital in making sure that their shoes fit well. But measurement is only a guide - the most important part is checking the shoes when they're on the foot.

At home
If you don't have a store near you, use the six steps below to replicate the Trained Fit Expert's fitting method at home.

Fit Guide Step One

Step One - Length


  • Help your child put the shoes on and check they are fastened effectively. Feel for the end of your child's longest toe - getting them to wiggle their toes may help.


  • Check there is sufficient growing room. At Clarks we recommend half an inch of growing room for most styles.
Fit Guide Step Two

Step Two - Width


  • Feel along the inside and outside of the shoe with your hand.


  • There should be no pressure or pinching at the sides.


  • Your child should be able to wiggle their little toe.
Fit Guide Step Three

Step Three - Depth


  • Pull your fingers across the front of the shoe.


  • There should be sufficient depth for comfort.


  • The leather should ripple, not pleat or crease.

Fit Guide Step Four

Step Four - Top of Shoe


  • Pull your fingers across the front of the shoe.


  • Feel around the top edge of the shoe.


  • There should be no gaps and the leather shouldn't rest against the ankle bone unless it is soft and padded.

Fit Guide Step Five

Step Five - Heel Grip


  • Sit your child down and lift one foot.


  • Pull down gently on the back of the shoe.


  • Make sure that it grips the heel well.


  • Repeat with the other foot.

Fit Guide Step Six

Step Six - Walking


  • Now ask your child to walk in their shoes.


  • Make sure that they are able to walk easily and naturally.


  • Check that the shoes grip when walking.


  • The shoes should not gape excessively at the sides.
