To use the Clarks Foot Measuring Gauge, follow our step-by-step video and written instructions. Remember, measuring is only a guide. Step 1:

Make sure your child is wearing socks that fit well. Sit them on someone else’s lap, facing you with their legs dangling. Kneel in front of your child. If your child is able to sit on a chair, please ensure it has a firm seat and they can sit safely with their knees bent.

Step 2:

Hold the measuring gauge in your left hand with the toe slide and end nearest your body. Rest your child’s foot in the gauge with their heel in the heel rest – gently hold it in place with your left thumb.

TIP: Make sure the foot is straight in the gauge.

Step 3:

Keep the gauge parallel to the floor, ensuring their knee and ankle stays at right angles throughout the measuring process.

Step 4:

With your right hand, gently hold down their toes to prevent them from curling. Move the toe slide until it just touches the tip of the longest toe.

Step 5:

Make a note of the length measurement indicated by the black lines in the circular window. Don’t forget to add any extra millimeters from the side scale to the number shown in the window.

TIP: Make sure the foot is straight in the gauge.

Step 6:

The width tape will automatically be lined up at the correct part of the foot. Pull the tape gently until it is just resting on the foot. Do not pull the tape tight, as this will give a narrow measurement.

Step 7:

Hold the tape end out, parallel to the floor. Looking down and making sure you do not twist the gauge, read off the number where the tape comes out under the tape carrier, indicated by the three black arrows. Make a note of the width measurement in millimeters.

Step 8:

Use the size calculator and enter the longest length measurement and widest width. This will tell you your child’s Clarks shoe size. If you are in any doubt about the measurements you have taken, simply visit one of our stores, where a trained expert will be happy to offer you a free measuring consultation.

Step 1:

Make sure your child is standing upright and wearing socks that fit well. Place the measuring gauge flat on the floor and position their foot on it, with their heel in the heel rest. Ensure their weight is evenly distributed on both feet.

Step 2:

Hold down their toes and move the toe slide until it just touches the tip of their longest toe.

TIP: Make sure the foot is straight in the gauge.

Step 3:

Make a note of the length measurement indicated by the black lines in the circular window. Don’t forget to add any extra millimeters from the side scale to the number in the window.

Step 4:

To take the width measurement, the tape needs to be positioned across the widest part of the foot. First, place a finger in the middle of your child’s foot on the big toe side. Gently move it toward the toes. You will feel a slight bump, which is the big toe joint.

Step 5:

Slide one end of the tape until it sits at the center of the joint at the base of the big toe.

Step 6:

Slide the other end of the tape until it sits at the center of the joint at the base of the little toe. The tape should now be angled to follow the line of the joints.

Step 7:

Pull gently on the tape until it just rests around your child’s foot, then make a note of the width measurements in millimeters at the point indicated by the black arrow. Do not pull the tape tight, as this will result in a narrow measurement. Repeat all actions for the other foot.

Step 8:

Use the size calculator and enter the longest length measurement and widest width. This will tell you your child’s Clarks shoe size. If you are in any doubt about the measurements you have taken, simply visit one of our stores, where a trained expert will be happy to offer you a free measuring consultation.
